Theodore is just days away from being a 4 month old and I have no idea why the time is going so fast! He's turning into such a little character and he's learning and growing each day. I could quite literally burst with pride at any given moment. So seeing as his 4 month birthday is looming, here is a round up of Theodore from the last month..
Weight
Theodore was last weighed on 30/04/15 and he weighed 13lb14oz! So so close to the stone mark. This means that since birth, Theodore has gained 4lb8oz! I see a lot of mummas posting on my Instagram feed that their baby has doubled their birthweight and it makes me chuckle slightly knowing that it'll probably be a good while longer before Theodore joins them. He has to reach 18lb12oz to achieve that goal ๐ His weight gain was very rapid in his earlier days and this meant he maintained his position on the 91st centile, however, recently it has slowed to around a 10oz gain every 2 weeks and he now sits in between the 25th and 50th centiles. This did worry me to begin with but the breastfeeding team have reassured me that this is normal for a breastfed baby. Plus, Theodore is so active that he's probably burning off a shed load of calories that he takes in.
Routine
Theodore's routine has changed slightly as he's now began to nap more than he previously was. Theodore has never been a great day sleeper and rarely napped for more than an hour collectively thought the day. Lately however he has begun to have around 3 or 4 half hour naps each day. This has been great for me as I can now get a little more done around the house! He's still breastfeeding like a champ every 2 hours during the day and sporadically throughout the night. The sleep regression has begun to hit Theodore and for around 3 weeks now he has been waking 2/3/4 times during the night.
Weaning
When Theodore was 13 weeks old, Tom and I made the decision to begin our weaning journey. Now I'm not usually a rule breaker and this decision was thought long and hard about but Theodore had been showing signs that he was ready, for a little while I ignored them and thought he was too young but my instinct was telling me that it was the right thing to do and what is a mother without her instinct? We started him on baby rice and he responded so positively straight away, after a few days we introduced carrot purรจe and every 2 days we'd introduce a new flavour. He is currently having a small meal after his lunch time feed and a small meal after his tea time feed. I am making all Theodore's meals myself and he has been so much more contented and happy since we started this journey. I'm all for using guidelines to help make decisions but I'm so happy I trusted my instinct.
Milestones!
- Theodore is starting to grab his toes now and grabs his toys with a lot more purpose! (Usually that purpose is to chew on them).
- Theodore now smiles and giggles for people special to him! If he doesn't really know someone then he's very wary of their presence for a little while.
- Theodore first rolled just before he turned 3 months but now he has truly mastered it! Nappy changes are now more challenging ๐
- Theodore has also moved into his own room and into his big cotbed! He is doing so well and I miss him terribly every single night but we definitely make up for it in the morning with lots of cuddles in mummy's bed ๐
